Peugeot designers endowed the new 508 with a coupe-shaped profile, frameless doors and expressive head optics with daytime running lights in the form of two inclined stripes. The gently sloping roofline leads into an aerodynamically shaped fifth door, which is visually divided into two parts by a horizontal stripe of black gloss LED lights with a three-dimensional effect. It is noteworthy that the wheelbase of the car during the change of generations increased by 27 mm (up to 2790 mm), the length and height were reduced by 80 mm and 60 mm, respectively, and the glazing line shifted back. The result is a long hood and short overhangs. Depending on the configuration and wishes of the buyer, wheels with a diameter of 16 to 19 inches can be installed on the liftback.
The interior of the second generation Peugeot 508 is designed in the style of a showcar Peugeot Exalt and in accordance with the i-Cockpit design concept tested on the 3008 and 5008 crossovers. The main components of the Peugeot i-Cockpit include: a compact steering wheel, a 10-inch HD touchscreen display with an 8:3 aspect ratio, a virtual instrument panel with a 12.3-inch screen.
The central touchscreen monitor is built into the panel at about the same height as the instrument panel on the windshield. An 8-inch HD version of the touchscreen is available as standard on the Active, and a 10-inch version on Allure and above. Next to the multimedia display are seven switches that look like the keys of a musical instrument. They provide access to the main functions: radio, air conditioning, navigation, on-board vehicle electronics settings, telephony and mobile applications.
The driver's seat (and passenger seat in Allure trim and above) has been labeled AGR (Aktion für Gesunder Rücken) by the German Movement for a Healthy Back association. Optionally, the driver and front passenger seat can be equipped with an eight-position massage system and five different massage programs.
In the cabin, there are many compartments for storing small luggage (with a total volume of up to 32 liters). Passengers also have four USB sockets for charging portable devices (available on Allure and above), one socket in the armrest and two 12V sockets, one of which is in the trunk. In the list of additional options, wireless charging for smartphones appeared, and in addition, an opening panoramic sunroof, acoustics from the famous French company Focal and other equipment are available for a fee.
The new generation Peugeot 508 is built on the EMP2 modular platform of the PSA alliance with a multi-link rear suspension. The body structure is dominated by hot-forged high-strength steel. The hood and front fenders are made of aluminum, while the tailgate is made of thermoplastic. The use of the EMP2 platform has reduced the weight of the 508 by an average of 70 kg compared to the first generation sedan. At the same time, the suspension and steering settings received a more driver-like character.
